Duties and Taxes

The buyer is responsible for any applicable duties and taxes. We cannot give you any estimate as to what that will be, and even if their will be any. Many clients  reporter not paying any additional fees. Below is the official stand on Duties and Taxes:
  • Import Duties:
    These are taxes levied on imported goods to protect local industries and are determined by the specific product category. 
  • VAT:
    A 15% VAT is applied to the “Added Tax Value” (ATV). The ATV is calculated as follows: (Customs Value + 10% of Customs Value + Applicable Duties). The 10% addition to the Customs Value is not applicable if the goods originate from Botswana, Lesotho, Namibia, or Eswatini (Swaziland).
  • De Minimis Threshold:
    If the total value of the imported goods, including shipping, is below R500, no duties or VAT are charged.
  • Customs Clearance:
    In addition to duties and VAT, there may be customs clearance fees charged by the South African Post Office or a customs broker for processing the import. 
  • Payment:
    VAT and duties are usually paid before the goods are released by customs, either to the South African Post Office or a customs broker. 

In essence, customers need to be aware that they may be responsible for additional costs (VAT and duties) when importing goods from CJ’s Dropshipping, and these costs are calculated based on the total value of the goods plus shipping.
